Cholesterol problem!?
I heard that really should not worry about the "total cholesterol", but rather their level of HDL, LDL and triglycerides. Is it true? I am a 29 years old. I did blood test 3 times this year, and here is my Results: In 3 / 2007 of HDL (57), LDL (120), Tri (60), total cholesterol (189) 7 / 2007 of HDL (68), LDL (151), Tri (88), total cholesterol (237) <= Red Flag. In 11/2007 HDL (62), LDL (136), Tri (67), total cholesterol (211) <= remains high. My diet is fairly the same throughout the whole year, I know what I ate that increase both March and July. Then pay more attention to what I put in my mouth, I started taking fish oil, and eliminate fatty foods too. They also begin to eat 15 almonds per day. Drops a little, but still a bit high. And how is the "total cholesterol" calculated? HDL + LDL + Triglycerides? Mine do not add up, so I am curious of how to calculate this.

A recommended method for assessing your cholesterol level is not looking TOTAL, but only to the ratio of total to HDL. This means dividing TOTAL HDL. Then see what category you are in: below 3.5 No risk 3.5 - 4.5Low Risk 4.5 - Risk More 5.5Medium risk 5.5High Example: Total = 290 (looks scared) but divided by HDL of 79 = 3.7 which is "= Low Risk 'Do not worry. Even using the conventional method and even if there is reason to watch the cholesterol, many people have no interest, even when the total is greater than what doctors recommend. HDL should be above 75. LDL should be less than 100. Triglycerides should be below 150. If the HDL is low and high triglyceride levels, this indicates too many carbohydrates and too little exercise. If LDL is too high, it may be oxidative stress and imbalances liver. OPC Synergy (1/day) of the standard process and Globe Artichoke 1 tsp / day (MediHerb) can help lower LDL. Cholesterol is only an innocent bystander to problem of heart disease. You can read this informative article by the expert Ron Rosedale, MD to find the details of why cholesterol is not the cause heart disease. http://www.mercola.com/2005/may/28/chole ... The causes of heart disease are far more complex, and rather go out and get his cholesterol test, there are four more powerful, blood tests to indicate the risk of heart disease. They are: HDL / total cholesterol ratio: percentage HDL is a very powerful cardiac risk factor. Only divided by your HDL cholesterol. This percentage should be higher than 24%. Triglycerides / HDL Ratio: Divide your triglyceride level by your HDL level. That percentage should be lower than 2. Fasting insulin: Normalization of fasting insulin level is a powerful and effective not only to reduce their risk of heart disease but also cancer. Your level should be below 5. Ferritin levels: high levels of iron will cause serious damage from free radicals and are a factor more significant risk for heart disease than cholesterol levels. A simple analysis blood test that measures ferritin levels can determine whether your iron levels are dangerously high. To reduce the risk of heart disease, it is necessary to focus only in lowering your cholesterol.
